In a far different world from the Ferrari’s and Lamborghini’s and their supercar hype was, Sholavaram -a mecca for the Indian racing scene back in the 1970-80’s and the humble Fiat Padmini. But not just any Padmini, a race bred type of beast. Built for racing and nothing else.
Stock Fiats stripped down to the bone and juiced up with the best of 1980’s tech with some cars flaunting disc brakes from Triumph Heralds, high lift cams, large radiators to breathe good and cool well, two twin carbs, Electronic Fi and full flow oil systems helping the humble Padmini to 7500 rpm rather quickly with power coming in from 2000 RPM onwards. Maxing these beasts around Sholavaram at 180 Kmh!
It wasn’t just racing but rallying as well. Several rally specced models have been reported in the Himalayan Rally’s in the 80’s. A regular everybody car, that could outdo most other cars of its time on tracks and high up in the Himalayas as well!
This t-shirt is an ode to those golden days when cars and racing was raw and unforgiving. Pure Flat Out Racing.
